From Aging Services of Minnesota:
The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has announced it will delay implementation of the new Nursing Facility Level of Care standards and Essential Community Supports program until Jan. 1, 2015 at the request of Governor Mark Dayton.
The delay applies to those who would receive MA coverage for long term care services in either a care center or through the Elderly Waiver, Alternative Care and disability waiver programs.
“The 2009 legislature eliminated eligibility for in-home services now being provided to about 3,300 Minnesota senior citizens, effective Jan. 1, 2014. I have asked my administration to delay implementation for at least one year, to assure that the necessary community supports are in place to ensure those seniors will receive alternative care. This delay will also provide the 2014 legislature the opportunity to reexamine the law and make any changes deemed necessary,” said Governor Mark Dayton.
According to DHS, the one year delay will allow for systematic changes to be implemented to ensure the right supports are in place for the people we serve.
What Does This Mean for Elderly Waiver and Alternative Care
There is no change to current procedures for Elderly Waiver and Alternative Care providers at this time. Assessments and re-assessments for Elderly Waiver and Alternative Care clients will continue to use the existing level of care requirements through the end of this year.
