When a family makes the decision to move their loved one to a memory care community, that decision usually is not easy. The decision to move, whether it needs to be made quickly or sometime in the near future, requires some research. You cannot possibly research all the options before a move. That is why it is key to gather information as soon as it appears likely a memory care community is in your loved one’s future. What information should you research?
Check out the vision statement of the community you are checking in to. Resident Directed Focus should be in the communities statement. That ensures that every task, no matter how small or large, has a direct effect on the residents. Everything from vacuuming to showers to all the fun and meaningful activities that we do have a direct correlation on how our residents experience life. Maintaining Dignity is a way of ensuring those life experiences are appropriate for our residents. Promoting Individuality and maintaining dignity go hand in hand. This means everyone is an individual and deserves to be treated individually, with cares, activities and Offer Choices about these. Our Staff help us achieve Financial Responsibility where ever possible. This ensures there is quality of care everywhere. You should also research how the community views independence. When you are young, independence gets a bad rap. But when we are older, independence is the one thing we try to hold on to. Holding on to independence is very unique to every resident. It may be as simple as choosing what to wear or buttoning a button. It can also mean driving a car or living in your home. Think about how you value your independence (example: choosing to go out for supper or making supper at home).
The most important reason why our communities should be your first choice in caring for your loved one affected by memory loss is “peace of mind”. Peace of mind can only come from trust. Trust in your loved ones care provider is something that is earned. We take that trust very seriously.
At Goldfinch Estates Memory Care and in all of our memory care communities at Welcome Home, we believe that our residents are our family. We earn the trust and the “peace of mind” through our actions. We believe all residents are individuals and should be treated like individuals.
You can find our memory care communities at the following locations:
- Goldfinch Estates Senior Living Community – Fairmont, Minnesota
- Copperleaf Senior Living Community – Willmar, Minnesota
- Manor House Senior Living Community – Grand Rapids, Minnesota
- Garnette Gardens Senior Living Community – Redwood Falls, Minnesota
- Keelson Harbour Senior Living Community – Spirit Lake, Iowa
- Thomas Landing Senior Living Community – Rice Lake, Wisconsin
The way our residents experience life is the most important. Safety measures, healthcare and well-trained care providers ensure that their experiences are what they want and need. Having “family-like” relationships with our care providers allows our residents to express themselves in ways everybody needs to express themselves. Come on in, take a look around, have a cup of coffee. See if our family is right for your family.
We look forward to meeting you and your family soon.
