Everyone enjoys dolls and stuffed teddy bears – especially in times of need.
Our residents along with their helper, Shirley Hall, have been busy sewing, stuffing and decorating dolls and teddy bears for needy children in the area. The bears and dolls will be used by women’s shelters and police departments in the area.
The idea was hatched by one of our residents, Don H. who started talking about the idea with other residents. Don initially got the idea from helping out with the local senior center who had a similar program.
“When Don brought it up with the other residents, they showed a great interest in the program. We always think of ways we can give to our residents, but they still want to give back to the community too.” stated Julie Mapson, Community Life Coordinator at Excelsior Place. “The reactions of the children when they get these dolls and teddy bears are amazing.”
Wow. What a cool program!
