On Tuesday, May 10th, Potter Ridge Assisted Living held a 90’s Birthday Party, celebrating everyone over 90 years of age. There were 23 in attendance and each one was adorned with a corsage made by Mickie, the Community Life Coordinator.
It was a great success and family members attended to enjoy the festivities. Dr. Mc Beth, a local geriatric psychologist, was the motivational speaker. He encouraged them to continue being active, living life and informed the audience they are our teachers and we can learn a lot from them.
We asked them what was their secret to a long life? Elda said to “be happy and laugh a lot!” Marian said “Don’t worry about things.”
We had to take the opportunity to ask them about their earliest memories and the differences in life today. Ruth remembers riding in a horse drawn sleigh in order to get around in the winter time, up until she was about 12 years old. “It is a lot different today, as we have many choices of the type of vehicle we want to use, and it is heated!”
Char Henn also spoke and shared news highlights from the year of 1916. She took them on walk down memory lane. Joe Lommel played his accordion and filled the room with old time favorite sounds. There were many sing-a-longs and a few even danced.
Thanks to those who participated and shared their stories and congratulations to our guests of honor!
